Sadly, we afford our Presidents too many opportunities to address the nation in times of tragedy. Last night’s “TOGETHER WE THRIVE” event in Tucson provided President Obama occasion to call us, again, to the “better angels of our nature.”
Let me go on record and say I thought the cheers were wonderful and I admired the spirit of the folks of Tucson and the students of Arizona University. I also thought the president, clearly back in his groove, was heartfelt and inspiring.
Today’s quote is from President Obama’s remarks last evening. As he concluded, the president called us to action by reminding us of the idealism and magic of nine-year old Chrisitina Taylor Green by saying:
“All of us — we should do everything we can to make sure this country lives up to our children’s expectations.” ~ President Obama
Our children have great expectations of us and this country. From conversations I’ve had with kids, they want us to:
- Listen more than we talk.
- Not to shout nor yell.
- Play fair.
- Make something…
- Know everyone matters.
Sounds like a good call to action. Let us commence with living in ways that exceed the expectations.
